Ame Salon and Spa

Ame Salon and Spa I’ve always felt the need to occasionally treat myself to pampering spa services and this habit only escalated once I discovered Ame. Meaning ‘rain’, Ame has a peaceful Asian influence throughout its decor and signature therapies.

Incorporating feng shui principles and representing the five elements of wood, fire, metal, earth and water, there is a balance and calmness within the spa. The first floor can be somewhat loud at times because it houses the reception area and bustling hair salon, however climb the stairs to the second floor spa and the ambiance soothes more deeply with each step. The overall setting at Ame is natural and comfortable, with wood flooring, water fountains, candles, crisp white orchids, dim lighting, earth tones and plush seating. Calming music plays and the hint of essential oils delicately fills the air. Even before the actual treatment begins, the atmosphere itself is healing and tranquil.

My addiction began with their Rice Milk and Honey pedicure, which is undeniably even better than the name makes it sound. Seated on raised banquettes, your feet soak in a large silver bowl filled with fresh rose petals, then sit back and enjoy. This pedicure is 70 minutes of luxury and worth every cent. Of course, I simply had to experience other treatments as well. I could hardly walk straight after an aromatherapy massage I received and rejuvenating warm stone massages and facials have become part of my regular routine. I’m notorious for taking the day off on my birthday and indulging in several treatments to celebrate - so much sweeter than cake!

With a number of unique treatments to choose from, Ame is worth the short ride out of the city. Make an appointment today and feel the AMEzing effects this Asian inspired spa can have.

Yoga on Main

Yoga on Main

Most city girls still need a little escape and rejuvenation from time to time. When my schedule won’t permit a destination vacation, I find that immersing myself in a yoga class often renews my spirit and gets me by.

Yoga on Main has been around long before the recent yoga boom hit the scene. The instructors are experienced and knowledgeable and what I really like is how welcoming the atmosphere is. It doesn’t matter what level you’re at, they offer classes suitable for all and make sure that you won’t get left behind.

Located on Main Street in Manayunk, the multi-level space is calming before the yoga even begins. It’s very easy to forget for the moment that you’re still surrounded by an active city. Classes are ongoing and can be joined at any time, choose from a multi-class card or simply drop in as needed. Yoga on Main also has private sessions, as well as many wellness services such as massage, reiki and spiritual counseling to name a few. They even host a variety of workshops, lectures and retreats throughout the year.

Visit their website for current class schedule and information.
